The state runner-up Devils Lake boys’ basketball team has two all-state players.
In the Class A all-state teams released Wednesday, Parker Brodina was named to the First Team and Mason Palmer was named to the Second Team. The Firebirds, who won the state championship last year, finished second at the state tournament this season.
Brodina, a senior forward and son of head coach Dustin Brodina, averaged 18 points per game. He shot 58% from the floor and 45% from three-point range. He added six rebounds, four assists and two steals per game. He also shot 80% from the free throw line.
Brodina was named the Senior Athlete of the Year for both Region 2 and for all of Class A.
Palmer, a junior guard, was a starter for the first time this year. He averaged 15.5 points per game, shooting 45% from the floor and 37% from beyond the arc. He made 75% of his free throws. He also added 4.3 rebounds, 4.5 assists per game and 2.4 steals per game.
The champion, Kindred, had two on the First Team in Presley Peraza and Brooks Bakko. Kyler Droog, a region foe from Grafton, was also named to the First Team. The five-man First Team was rounded out by Beulah’s Brayden Schirado.
Palmer was one of six on the Second Team, joined by Caden Englund and Wyatt Westin from third-place Shiloh Christian, Gavin Krogstad from fourth-place Thompson, Stanley’s Drake Schlosser and Valley City’s Bryson Heck.
Brodina and Palmer were both all-state tournament selections as well, alongside Devils Lake’s Joel Nelson.
Palmer is expected to be the top returner next year for a Firebirds team that graduates eight seniors. Brodina will be continuing his basketball career at the University of Mary.
