The sign outside the former Thirsty’s bar says “Coming Soon! Sushi, Boba Tea, Burgers and Beer.” Watch for the opening day of this new incarnation of Thirsty’s - located at 318 4th St. NE in the historic downtown Devils Lake. Rumor has it they may be bringing back gourmet hot dogs, too! (Photo courtesy Devils Lake Journal)
Old Spirits & Sushi is taking over the once-beloved Thirsty’s. Thirsty’s closed last year and was a much-beloved bar in the community. Well known for their excellent drinks, great food, and games, many thought that Thirsty’s would just stay empty for a long time. But one man came along and decided to save it.
You might recognize “Big” Dave if you purchase sushi at Leevers. He helps prepare the delicious sushi for sale. He is now the new owner of Old Spirits & Sushi. Don’t worry. If you still love the sushi at Leevers, he will still be there to prepare it.
“I am excited,” he said about being the new owner. “Nervous at the same time.”
It will still be the same Thirsty’s that you love and remember. Dave said he didn’t want to mess around with too much of the decor for nostalgia reasons. The classic bar menu, including food and drinks, that Thirsty’s offered will be making it’s return.
Whether it was onion rings, popcorn chicken, burgers, or prime rib, your favorites that loved to devour will be back on the menu.
One of the questions “Big” Dave was asked was about the return of the famous Hot Dog Nights where people could get all kinds of different combinations hot dogs. And yes, Hot Dog Night will return! You may remember such classics as the OMG dog with macaroni and cheese and pulled pork. Or maybe you favorite was the Elvis Presley which was a hotdog with bananas and peanut butter!
There will be more additions to the menu. Sushi rolls will be a regular item on the menu. If you enjoy sweet drinks, bubble tea is also going to be offered. There will be 19 flavors, but more will follow. The alcohol menu will have Japanese sake aldo.
The plan is for the first floor to be operated as Thirsty’s was, and the floor above would be a sushi bar.
Games such as bingo and the gambling machines will be available.
Old Spirits & Sushi hopes to open very soon.
